This L3 QLS awarded course is designed to support Teaching Assistants in developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence to contribute effectively to both teaching and assessment within adult education.
Grounded in real classroom practice, the course explores how to support learning, manage group dynamics, and work alongside tutors, while introducing the key principles of assessment, feedback, and professional judgement.
Participants will develop the ability to make fair and consistent assessment decisions, provide clear and constructive feedback, and contribute to a high standard of training delivery. The course also introduces key quality assurance processes, ensuring alignment with best practice and awarding body expectations.
This course adheres to the principles of recognised assessor training (such as CAVA and legacy assessor awards), while remaining grounded in a relational and reflective approach to adult learning.
The course is delivered over three Saturdays, comprising two theory and experiential intensive days, followed by a third day focused on teaching practice. This structure allows participants to consolidate their learning, build confidence, and apply both teaching and assessment skills in a supportive and practical environment.
No formal qualifications are required, but good literacy and computer skills are needed for this course.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to support teaching and learning within an adult education setting, contribute to assessment processes using a range of methods, and make fair, consistent, and evidence-based assessment decisions. They will be able to provide clear, constructive, and criteria-linked feedback, work within appropriate professional and ethical boundaries, and demonstrate an understanding of quality assurance processes, including standardisation and external verification.
