L5 Advanced Certificate in Working with Couples, Relationships & Sex

A comprehensive, experiential course for therapists to further explore relationships, relating in depth and working with sex in relationships. Designed for experienced counsellors and psychotherapists from a variety of theoretical backgrounds who would like to develop the skills and knowledge to become competent in their practice working with relationships and sexual issues.

Our approach at CCT is both integrative and supportive, looking at the development of relationships and incorporating theories from attachment, systemic and psychodynamic theories whilst using skills practice to develop and deepen your own existing theoretical understanding.

This course will explore working with different types of relationships, giving you practical and effective tools to better your understanding of the mechanics of working with couples and psychosexual issues.

This will include exploring the couple fit; shared defences; working with anger in the couple dynamic; delving into the impact of affairs and how to support couples in the therapy room. We will be looking at definitions of love and the effect of generational trauma and also how to use genograms in the therapy room. We will be exploring areas such as the conditions for good sex, the linear and circular model of sex and working with desire discrepancy in the couple.

  • Be qualified counsellors, with at least 2 years clinical experience who have an interest in working with couples, and individuals with relationship and sexual issues.
